An Iranian who has been dubbed the “dirtiest man in the world” for not showering for decades has died at the age of 94, state media reported on Tuesday.

Amu Haji, who had not bathed for more than half a century and was single, died on Sunday in the village of Deygah in the southern province of Fars, the IRNA news agency reported.

Hadji avoided showering for fear of “getting sick,” the agency quoted a local official as saying.

But “for the first time a few months ago, the villagers took him to the bathroom to wash,” IRNA reported.

According to Iranian media, in 2013 a short documentary was filmed about his life called “The Strange Life of Amu Haji”.
