A couple have died after a head-on collision on a regional South Australian road.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Riddoch Highway and Mcgrice Road in Willalooka, about 60 km from the Victorian border, following reports a Toyota and a Ford collided about 9.40am on Saturday.
The two passengers of the Ford – a man and woman- died at the scene.
It is understood the pair were in a relationship but they have yet to be formally identified.
The driver of the Toyota – a 21-year-old Padthaway man – was taken to the Mount Gambier Hospital with serious injuries.
Major Crash investigators are at the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
No charges have been laid.
The Riddoch Highway was closed in both directions between Keith and Rowney Road, but reopened about 7pm.
The couple are the 99th and 100th lives lost on SA Roads this year.
It shows a sharp uptick in the number of road fatalities in the states, with just 61 deaths reported by the same time last year.
The tragedy is the second to befall the region bordering Victoria in the last week, after 53-year-old police officer Jason Doig was fatally shot during a house call in Senior, just 76km away.
