US and German Cardinals Demand Trial and Suspension of German Bishops Approving Blessing of Same-Sex Marriage

Leaders Catholic Church in Germany, they should be punished for breaking with the Vatican and endorsing a blessing on same-sex marriage, two cardinals say.

Cardinal Raymond Burke of the USA and Cardinal Gerhard Müller of Germany spoke about the de facto split in Germany during an interview with EWTN.

“Whether it is apostasy, a heretical teaching and a denial of one of the articles of faith — or apostasy in the sense of simply leaving Christ and His teaching in the Church to adopt some other form of religion — these are crimes.” Burke said.

He continued: “I mean, these are sins against Christ Himself and obviously of the most serious nature. And the Code of Canon Law provides for appropriate sanctions.”

Burke accused “revolutionaries” in the church of ignoring power of the Vatican and turn a blind eye to Pope Francis’ resistance to their change.

Last year, Pope Francis reminded the faithful in the country that German bishops do not have the authority to propagate new theology or change church administration.

In the message, the pope expressed concern about the laity and clergy of Germany if their leaders broke with established church doctrine. The statement claimed that Catholics would be negatively affected by the many proposed changes to the church promoted by Cardinal Reinhard Marx and other liberal German leaders on their “synodal path”.

“In order to protect the freedom of the People of God and to carry out the episcopal ministry, it seems necessary to clarify that the “synodal path” in Germany does not have the power to force bishops and believers to switch to new paths. governance and new approaches to doctrine and morality,” the Holy See said in a statement.

It further stated: “Until an agreed understanding at the level of the universal Church, it would be unacceptable to initiate new official structures or doctrines in the dioceses, which would represent a wound to church fellowship and a threat to the unity of the Church. .”

Müller took a similarly blunt tone, demanding that German bishops be tried within the church and removed from their positions if they failed to normalize their doctrine.

“There must be a trial and they must be sentenced and they must be removed from their positions if they do not convert and accept the Catholic doctrine,” Mueller said.

“[It] it is very sad that the majority of bishops openly voted against the revealed teaching and revealed faith of the Catholic Church and all our Christian thinking, against the Bible, the word of God in Holy Scripture, in the apostolic tradition and in defining the doctrine of the Catholic Church,” said the German cardinal.

Last year over 100 bishops from all over the world addressed the German bishops with an open letter, urging them to close the synod and refrain from making illegal changes.
