UK mother stabbed to death by pedophile who raped her children
Mom told how she stabbed a pedophile neighbor after learning that he raped her children.
Britain’s Sarah Sands stabbed 77-year-old Michael Plestead eight times in 2014 in a “decisive and sustained attack” that left him bleeding to death. Sun reports.
Plestead was already a convicted pedophile and changed his name from Robin Moult to cover up longstanding crimes against children.
Sands’ three children told her that Plestead, who lived across the street from the family in London, was abusive, and she took matters into her own hands.
“For pedophiles, if you touch children, there should be consequences,” Sands said. breakfast with bbc.
“And hiding behind a name change… that needs to be taken away from them. This right to change their name must be taken away from them.”
Now her brave boys, who have declined anonymity, have revealed how they considered their mother a hero for killing their abuser.
Bradley, who was 11 at the time, said: “I thought, ‘Hats off.’ I’m not going to deny it.”
Alfie added: “It made us feel more secure. The nightmares didn’t slow down. But it gave us a sense of security because you didn’t have to walk down the street thinking he would come around the corner.
“He lived literally across the street from us. I could open that window over there and see his house.”
Plestead’s council flat overlooked a playground and school in Canning Town, East London.
But no one knew about Plestead’s nefarious past, because he changed his name and his crimes were committed before they entered the sex offender registry.
Ms Sands was found guilty of manslaughter based on loss of control following a 2015 Old Bailey trial and ultimately jailed for seven and a half years after the Court of Appeal increased her sentence.
She said she originally intended to threaten Plestead, who was on bail awaiting trial, to force him to plead guilty so that her children would not have to testify in court.
Labor MP Sarah Champion told the BBC that some offenders are changing their names to avoid the background checks required for jobs, including working with children.
“After changing their name, they can get a new driver’s license and passport in that name. This allows them to get a new DBS (Disclosure and Deny Service) check,” she said.
“And we find that these people then go to schools and other places where there are children and vulnerable people and use their trust in the most terrible way.”
The UK Home Office said it has already looked into the matter and the UK already has strict rules on sex offenders living in the community.
