Twitter head of security Ella Irwin resigns

Twitter’s chief content moderator has reportedly stepped down after serving just seven months under CEO Elon Musk.

Ella Irvine, who joined the social media platform in June 2022 and became head of trust and security last fall when Musk formally acquired the social media platform, confirmed her departure to Reuters.

She did not give any details about her decision to retire, but told The Wall Street Journal “She was always honest in her work.”

She succeeded Yoel Roth, who left the company after Musk took over.

Twitter responded to a Reuters request for a comment with a poop emoji, according to the news feed.

Musk has not directly commented on the departure, but it came after the CEO publicly condemned the platform’s earlier decision to limit the reach of The Daily Wire’s transphobic video titled “What is a Woman?” reported two cases of misgendering.

The decision to moderate content was Irwin’s responsibility.

“This was the mistake of many people on Twitter,” Musk wrote in response to a complaint from Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boring. “It’s definitely allowed.”

As of Friday morning, the closest Musk came to explaining the reason for Irwin’s departure was his response to a Twitter user who asked about leaving the trust and safety group in a thread about the movie. “Associated with the director”, He wrote.

Musk, who has a history of creating and promoting transphobic comments on Twitter, has been criticized for letting hate spread on the platform since he took over.

The film was seen on The Daily Wire’s Twitter account on Friday and did not appear to have a warning label. Musk explained that “the only limitation is that it will not be placed next to ads.”

He also shared the video on his Twitter account.

Musk started announced he will soon step down as CEO of the company and be replaced by Linda Iaccarino. Iaccarino “will focus primarily on business operations and I will focus on product design and new technologies,” Musk previously tweeted.
