Weah, who used to play for major European teams including AC Milan, is currently the president of Liberia.
But his son, Timothy Weah, is starring for the Yankees in Qatar, where he scored a goal in their first game that set them up for the playoffs.
Some believe that this move robbed Liberia of a great talent. But if you look realistically, Thomas is unlikely to ever play in the World Cup with Liberia.
This North African nation has never qualified for the World Cup in its history and rarely makes it to the continental landmark, the Africa Cup of Nations.
But what’s more interesting is that the people of Liberia still celebrate Timothy and reportedly had a big celebration when he scored a goal last week.
And Timothy is not the only one. South Africa also has a player in the World Cup despite not qualifying for the tournament.
