Thousands flee wildfire in eastern Canada

More than 16,000 people have been forced from their homes in the eastern Canadian province of Nova Scotia as one of the hundreds of wildfires raging across the country threatened the city of Halifax, officials said on Monday. The fire, still out of control on the city’s northwestern edge, has not escalated since a state of emergency was declared late Sunday evening, forcing suburbanites to leave the city at a moment’s notice.
