Takakeishō’s promotion bid in jeopardy after loss to Mitakeumi

lonely aloud Takeisho fell to 3-3 after losing to rank-and-file rival Mitakeumi at Friday’s Spring Sumo Grand Tournament, jeopardizing his bid for a second straight championship title and promotion to yokozuna.

Komusubi Daisho, no. 5 maegashira Midorifuji and No. 7 Takayasu, meanwhile, moved into the top three, remaining undefeated on Day 6 at Edion Arena Osaka.

In a battle of current and former ozeki, Takakeisho was unable to capitalize on the momentum of his strong kickoff and was eventually edged out by the third placed Mitakeumi maegashira (3-3).
