Tajan: A consistent supporter of friendly relations between PH and China.

JOSE Ong Tajan, an outstanding community organizer, educator, and businessman, received the Major Contribution Award at the 2023 Filipino-Chinese Understanding (APPCU) Awards, a collaborative event spearheaded by the Association for Filipino-Chinese Understanding (APCU) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic Philippines.

An active member of the APCU Baguio Branch for 42 out of 48 years, where he assisted in the planning of educational, cultural, military, political and trade visits for more than 100 official delegates from China, over time made efforts to improve and promote bilateral relations of friendship and understanding between Philippines and China, and promoting the spirit of friendship and understanding between the Philippines and China.

Tajang, a consistent supporter of the development of friendly relations between China and the Philippines, will be recognized at the awards ceremony on June 8.

He is an active organizer of the annual Spring Festival celebrations, an advocate for the establishment of Philippine-Chinese Friendship Day, and the driving force behind the construction of the Philippine-Chinese Friendship Garden in the Baguio City Botanical Park.

He helped organize and participated in various community service programs. Tajan was also invited as a Filipino delegate to the 70th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China in 2019, the largest military parade and mass pageant in Chinese history.

He also served as president of Baguio Patriotic High School (BPHS), the first school in Baguio to offer English and Chinese classes (from 1995 to 1996), and has been a member of the board of directors since 1981. As part of his commitment to education, he has awarded cash gifts to outstanding BPHS students.

The former chairman of the Philippine-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Baguio helped build a school in the area and coordinated with the Federation of Philippine-Chinese Chambers of Commerce Inc. 20 more in construction.

The first president of the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Club in Baguio also helped organize several philanthropic missions, distributing school supplies, medicine, wheelchairs, and clothing.

Tajan joined the APPCU Baguio chapter in 1981. In his first term as president (from 1985 to 1986), he led a delegation that visited several cities in China at the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).

During his second term (from 1988 to 1989), he led the planning for the reception of several delegates from the CPAFFC.
