Taiwan Elections: Claims of Chinese interference, candidate beatings, vote-buying scandals

Taiwan’s local midterm elections have generated a lot of drama and intrigue as more than 11,000 positions in 22 cities and counties will be decided on Saturday.

Physical beatings of candidates, vote-buying scandals and allegations of foreign conspiracies emerged from this electoral cycle.

Some argue that the results will influence whether Taiwan remains a democracy or falls under the control of communist China, according to Sky News Asia correspondent Brent O’Halloran.
