Shohei Otani thrills fans with two homers as Japan beats Hanshin in WBC warm-up
Osaka – Shohei Otani hit a pair of three-run home runs and Lars Nutbaar hit two goals in his first Samurai Japan game before the World Baseball Classic in an 8-1 win over the Hanshin Tigers on Monday.
Since MLB players could not participate in earlier games due to tournament rules, Otani, Nutbaar and Masataka Yoshida had to wait until the team’s first official appearance in the tournament to enter the field and leave a mark on their opponents.
Nutbaar and Otani thrilled the packed crowd at Kyocera Dome Osaka by practicing batting and didn’t give up once the game started.
