On Thursday, the actor gave a pep talk calling for donations while accepting the Courage Award at a fundraiser for the Women’s Cancer Research Foundation. At one point in her speech, she burst into tears.

“I’m a tech idiot, but I can write a fucking check” Stone told viewers, according to Entertainment Tonight. “And right now, that’s courage too, because I know what’s going on. I just lost half my money with this banking business and that doesn’t mean I’m not here.”

It is not clear exactly what “banking” Stone was referring to – whether it was related to the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. as a result of the stock market downturn or something completely different. The regional lender collapsed two days after last week’s classic banking crash, when a slew of clients withdrew their deposits. (BuzzFeed, the parent company of HuffPost, is operated by SVB.)

Stone, 65, was honored for raising awareness mammary cancer. She performed to crowds at the Beverly Wilshire Ballroom in Beverly Hills, California, including Rebel Wilson, Maria Bello And Lori Loughlin. During her speech, Stone spoke about her past health fears.

“These mammograms are not fun,” Stone told ET. “And for someone like me who was told I had breast cancer because I had a tumor that was bigger than my breasts and they were sure I couldn’t have a tumor that wasn’t cancer, that’s not this way”.

“But I went to the hospital saying, ‘If you open me up and it’s cancer, please take both of my breasts,’ because I’m not a person defined by my breasts,” she continued. “You know, it might seem funny if I told you, because you all seem like them.”

Stone recently revealed that she underwent breast reconstruction surgery in 2001 after doctors discovered “giant” tumors. according to The Hollywood Reporter. She urged the crowd to never “get a mammogram, don’t get a blood test, don’t get an operation.”

The evening reportedly ended with a performance maroon 5, whose participants donated the proceeds to the cause of the night. Stone, whose brother recently died at age 57concluded her speech in his honor – and a call to fight for women’s rights.

“My brother just died and that doesn’t mean I’m not here,” she said. “This is a tough time for any of us… but I’ll tell you this: I don’t want some politician telling me what I can and can’t do.”

“So get up,” she said. “Try it. That’s what courage is.”
