A fast flood surrounds the truck

A man was driving a tanker along the Galana-Kulalu dam when the river suddenly overflowed and surrounded him.

“Flooding is a constant threat during the wet season and it is often impossible to predict when and how quickly the water levels will rise,” said the Sheldrick Wildlife Conservation Fund, which sent a helicopter to rescue the driver.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust said the flooding was so sudden and severe that it quickly surrounded the tanker and locked the driver inside. The water then pushed the car on its side, shattered a window and entered the cabin of the tanker.

“The man was clinging to the top, but it was only a matter of time before the river swallowed the entire car,” he said.

“The spectators watched helplessly from the shore, horrified but unable to intervene as the current made any crossing impossible.”

Dangerous Rescue Mission

The video shows the helicopter hovering six inches above the raging water as Roan Carr-Hartley of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust reaches out to help the driver off the truck. Roan’s brother, Tarr, flew the helicopter.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust said the gusty winds and churning water made it “very difficult” to fly the helicopter.

“Danger lurked below, between the raging river and the gasoline tank.”

It was around 4:30 p.m. when the rescue operation began. The driver has been blocked since 10 am.

“We can only guess what went through his head as the water continued to rise around him. However, a few minutes after the helicopter arrived, he was back on solid ground.”

According to the report The newspaper “New York Times, the driver, whose name is James Rufus, said he thought he was going to die. He even called his family and friends to say goodbye.
