Saudi-backed LIV tour golfers file antitrust lawsuit against PGA

This competition shook up the golf world.

Now, players signed to the Saudi Arabian-backed LIV golf tournament are suing their former treasurers, the PGA Tour, for being barred from the breakaway competition.

Six-time major champion Phil Mickelson and 10 other golfers are the plaintiffs who filed the antitrust lawsuit on Wednesday.

The lawsuit says the PGA Tour threatened them with a life ban and accused the organization of having a monopoly on golf.

The three players are seeking a temporary restraining order that would allow them to compete in upcoming tour competitions.

LIV has been a major disruptor in golf, luring players away from famous tours with big prize money and lucrative signup bonuses.

PGA Tour head Jay Monahan says the lawsuit is an attempt by players who chose to leave to fight their way back into the organization.
