Recently, a retired Hultom City police officer was killed in a house fire near Azle.

AZL, TX (CBSDFW.COM) — A recently retired 25-year-old veteran of the Haltom City Police Department died Sunday morning after a fire broke out at his home near Azle.

Retired Corporal Tony Miller, 62, from Azl, joined the department in 1997 and retired earlier this year.

A department spokesperson stressed that Miller is a pillar of both the department and society. His career began as a patrol officer. Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department as a detective.

Miller was later promoted to corporal and worked in several special forces, including street crime and special forces. He also served as a firearms instructor for the department.

After retiring as an officer, Miller returned to the department to work as a real estate technician.

Hultom City Police said Miller’s “smile, laughter and wealth of knowledge will not soon be forgotten” and asked city residents to pray for his family, friends, loved ones and fellow officers who mourn his loss.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the fire, and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
