Police in Scotland criticized for report describing pedophiles as ‘people who are attracted to minors’: ‘Bullshit’
Police in Scotland sparked outrage when the report called pedophiles “people who are attracted to minors”.
Officials said the wording of the year-end report was based on the terminology used by the European Union.
AT annual reportChief Constable Ian Livingston said police were working on a project whose main goal is to “develop an understanding and approach to avoid victimization of children by engaging underage persons (MAP) and providing them with the necessary support, treatment and guidance to help prevent criminal activity.”
The phrase in the report drew criticism from many in Scotland who said the police were normalizing sex crimes against children. This was reported by the Scotland Daily Express newspaper..
“The proliferation of these euphemisms just masks the reality and their danger,” Kenny MacAskill, Alba MP for East Lothian. and a former SNP justice minister, told the publication.
TUCKER CARLSON: A HEALTHY SOCIETY CANNOT TOLERATE PEDOPHILIAS
“I very much applaud good sense on the part of the police in Scotland, although even when commissioning documents, these euphemisms should be avoided as they mask reality and cover up horror. This term in any context is nonsense.”
Maggie Mellon, an independent social work consultant, said the term “MAP” leads to “the danger of normalization and therefore possible decriminalization of serious crime.”
The leader of the Conservative Party in Scotland added that “most Scots would find any attempt to soften the wording of pedophilia in the official leadership deeply disturbing and wrong”.

The term has drawn criticism online from political commentators, including Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson.
“How about we not do this: ‘people attracted by minors’ equal predators, plain and simple,” Peterson tweeted.
In a statement Police Scotland said the term is not used in the department but is based on the language of the European Union.
“Police Scotland do not use the term ‘minor’,” the statement said. “The mention in the Police Chief’s 2021/22 assessment of police performance was made in the context of Police Scotland’s engagement with the Horizon Project EU Consortium to Combat Sexual Abuse and Child Exploitation.”
“The term was used in the commissioning documents of the consortium and is more commonly used on the continent. In September, the Scottish Police successfully lobbied for the term MAP, which should not be used by the consortium.”
