Panthers take revenge on Falcons as D’Onta Foreman leads Carolina to victory

After their heartbreaking loss a couple of weeks ago, Carolina Panthers avenged the Atlanta Falcons with a 25–15 home win, their third win of the season.

DJ Moore’s Solution removing his helmet two weeks ago after scoring on a Hail Mary to tie the score resulted in a missed extra point try that ultimately secured the Falcons’ field goal for the overtime win.

This time, the Panthers dominated throughout the game, and they did just that by beating the Falcons at what they do best: running football.

Atlanta entered the game with fourth in yards per game and third in tries per contest. But so far they have tried four different running backs and used Defender Markus Mariota to run, they were only able to run 138 yards on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Panthers hit 232, which was less than D’Ont Foreman’s 130 yards on 31 carries as he was the workhorse they needed to get through this game filled with heavy rain and wind.

Foreman scored the team’s second touchdown of the game, which came just after Mariota found rookie wide receiver Drake London in the end zone, cutting the Panthers’ lead to four. Quarterback PJ Walker and the forwards only played seven plays in the next drive, which Foreman finished with a 12-yard touchdown to make it 19-9 (Eddie Pinheiro missed an extra point, as did Younghue Koo).

Walker wasn’t as flamboyant as he was in Atlanta, but he did well after the running game. He finished with just 108 yards in 10 of 16, although he made smart decisions when he needed to throw the ball (with the exception of one that will be highlighted later).

He also allowed his teammates to play, as the first touchdown of the game came in the Carolinas’ 10-point second quarter when Laviska Chenault caught a cross and brought the ball home for 41 yards to make it 10–0.

Mariota, on the other hand, made bad decisions throughout the game. Even though he was under a lot of pressure, he shouldn’t have made just one interception that evening. The Panthers had several chances to get away with the pick, but only Jaycee Horn was able to catch one in a desperate run meant for the tight end. Kyle Pitts in the second quarter.

However, he was able to muster a 97-yard drive that ended with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Hadarel Hodge to lead the Falcons to one possession in the fourth quarter.

Falcons safety Richie Grant might have made the final drive for Atlanta more interesting if he could get away with Walker’s interception after that count, as he had a great jump on the route but failed to catch him in Panthers territory.

Instead, the Falcons returned the ball to the Panthers after just four plays with Marquis Haynes Sr. picking up two bags while riding. Pinheiro added his fourth field goal in the game just in case, as the Panthers ran out of time.

Mariota finished the game with two touchdown passes and an interception, passing 19 of 30 for 186 yards.

While no one actually left in the running game, Caleb Huntley led the way with 32 yards in just five carries. Cordarrell Patterson, who scored twice last week, should have been a key player in this game, but he only had five carries for 18 yards. Mariota actually led the way in yards with 43 yards in just three carries.

London had five catches for 38 yards with his touchdown, while Pitts, despite eight goals, only had two catches for 28 yards.
