Two people escaped serious injury after their truck crashed into a cliff-top home, leaving them hanging over a dangerous 10m drop.

Emergency services were called to a house on Weerona Pl in southern Sydney around 7:25 am on Saturday to discover that a truck had crashed into the garage of a one-story home.

A man and a woman were locked in the cab of a truck hanging over the edge of a dangerous cliff.

The couple were released by the New South Wales Fire and Rescue Service after about 20 horrific minutes.

They were examined by NSW paramedics before being taken to Sutherland Hospital as a precaution.

Firefighters stabilized the truck, which left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Fortunately, the police confirmed that no one was in the house at the time of the shocking accident.

“Officers at the Sutherland County Police Station have been told the house is empty during renovations,” a spokesman for the New South Wales Police said.

“Currently, rescue work is underway to evacuate the truck, the building has suffered significant structural damage.

The house is located at the foot of a hill on Weerona Place in the southern suburbs of Sydney.

The police will continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident and its causes.
