Lions and cowboys are Thanksgiving staples such as turkey, minced meat, mashed potatoes and awkward conversations at the dinner table. Detroit has hosted a Thanksgiving Day game every year since 1934, and Dallas has hosted a game every holiday since 1966, with the exception of 1975 and 1977.
In 1925, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cardinals played 0-0 at Wrigley Field in front of a crowd of 36,000. In 1934, the Lions played the Bears on Thanksgiving Day in the first national television broadcast of a football game. Bronco Nagurski passed a 2-yard touchdown to Bill Hewitt to seal a 19-16 win in their first meeting.
This year, NFL to honor the memory of the late John Madden during the day. Madden died at the age of 85 last year, just days after the release of his documentary. The league stated that the first “John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration” will focus on CBS, FOX, and NBC throughout the game’s roster.
Lions (4-6) vs. Scores (7-3) – 12:30 pm ET CBS
The Lions are in a turmoil on Thanksgiving, as they are every year, and they go into the Bills game looking to shatter Buffalo’s playoff hopes. Detroit won three in a row behind Jared Goff, Jamaal Williams and a hard-hitting defense.
Buffalo is back in the saddle after defeating the Browns last week. Josh Allen hopes to reduce mistakes against the Lions and not sink Buffalo in such a pivotal game at this point in the season. Allen was also undefeated on Thanksgiving Day (2-0). He had 204 passing yards and a touchdown in his previous Thanksgiving game against the Lions.
Detroit is hoping Jamaal Williams can continue the tears. He had three rushing touchdowns last week and became the fourth player since 2000 to hit multiple rushing touchdowns in at least five of the first ten games of the season.
The scores are 5-4-1 all-time on Thanksgiving and the Lions are 37-43-2.
Cowboys (7-3) vs. Giants (7-3) – 4:30 pm ET FOX
Cowboys and Giants meet for Thanksgiving for the first time since 1992. The teams are in very different locations than when they first met at MetLife Stadium in September. 26
Dallas is gaining momentum in its NFC East title bid. The Cowboys are seventh in points. scored and 14th in yards gained, and their defense is ranked first in points allowed and ninth in yards allowed. The Cowboys have won 10 of their last 11 games against the Giants.
New York are looking to bounce back from their home loss to the Lions. But getting through the defense of Dallas with an injury-riddled team will be a challenge. Especially when a guy like Micah Parsons steps into Reggie White territory.
Parsons recorded his eighth career match with at least two sacks, tying Sean Merriman and Reggie White for “second-most such games by a player in his first two NFL seasons since 1982,” according to the NFL.
Cowboys 31-22-1 for Thanksgiving. Giants 6-4-3.
Vikings (8-2) vs. Patriots (6-4) – 8:20 pm ET, NBC
Vikings and patriots will complete Thanksgiving Day celebration.
New England triumph over the New York Jets on Sunday thanks to the return of the punt. touchdown from Marcus Jones. The Patriots have some of the best defense in the league. These Pats are second in points allowed and fourth in yards allowed. It can be difficult for the Vikings to launch an offensive.
But of course they have Justin Jefferson. The star wide receiver enters the game with 4,109 career receiving yards and can pass Randy Moss for the most receiving yards by a player. in his first three seasons in NFL historyy.
Minnesota is 6-2 at Thanksgiving and the Patriots are 3-2.
