NFL 2023: Darren Waller moves from Las Vegas Raiders to New York Giants after parting ways with WNBA Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum after marriage
Darren Waller and Kelsey Plum were supposed to be a Las Vegas sports couple.
But the newlyweds, who tied the knot in Sin City earlier this month, will be leaving soon.
New York Post reports that the Raiders traded a tight end to the New York Giants in an unexpected Wednesday free transfer (AEDT).
Plum, an All-Star defenseman for the Las Vegas Aces, is gearing up for the 2023 WNBA season starting in May.

The trading news came 10 days after Waller and Plum got married. Athletic. The publication reported that Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels accidentally leaked news of the couple’s wedding to reporters at the NFL Scouting Association in Indianapolis.
In addition, the publication reported that Waller was upset with McDaniels when Las Vegas Review Magazine posted a story about the couple’s wedding date of March 4th.
Waller and Plum have not publicly announced their plans to marry. They have reportedly been dating since last year.
Two weeks earlier, McDaniels had said Waller, 30, “is going to be a big part of what we’re going to do going forward.”
According to the NFL Network, despite the Raiders calling the league for extra picks, Waller was bought for over a year.
Waller signed with the Giants for the next four seasons after signing a three-year, $51 million extension with the Raiders in September.
The Georgia Tech product had consecutive 1,100-yard receiving seasons in 2019 and 2020 when it won the Pro Bowl.
Waller has suffered from injuries over the past two seasons, in just 17 games, out of just nine last season, recording 28 receptions for 388 yards and three touchdowns.
In 2017, Waller nearly died after overdosing on a drug laced with fentanyl, and the Georgia Tech product was open about his journey to sobriety.
As for the plum? The Under Armor athlete who was the No. 1 1st overall pick in the 2017 draft is the best year of his career in 2022.
The 28-year-old won her first WNBA title with the Aces, was named the MVP of her first All-Star Game, and won the gold medal with Team USA at the FIBA Basketball World Championship.
Plum averaged 20.2 points and 5.1 assists per game last season.
Robert Griffin III – a former NFL quarterback who works as an NFL analyst for ESPN – was not happy with McDaniels after the Waller trade.
“Darren Waller just married Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces and Josh McDaniels’ wedding gift was to trade him for the New York Giants,” Griffin tweeted.
“McDaniels is NOT a romantic.”
Aces are also owned by Raiders owner Mark Davis.
Moments after news of the deal broke, Josh Jacobs, a Las Vegas fugitive, showed up to offer his take on the matter, tweeting, “Damn fr (really),” Jacobs tweeted. on Twitter.
