New England boss Steve Borthwick wants to revive Twickenham’s roar

Steve Borthwick has vowed that Twickenham will ‘roar’ after he was named head coach of the England rugby team on Monday, with only nine months to revive their declining fortunes before the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Former England captain Borthwick, who previously managed Premier League champions Leicester City, has replaced veteran manager Eddie Jones. The Aussie was sacked after England’s worst record since 2008, when he had just five wins in 12 games.

“Being appointed to this position fills me with incredible pride and I am honored to take on this job,” Borthwick, who was England’s assistant coach under Jones for five years, told a press conference on Monday. “Now I know that pride won’t mean anything if we don’t make it.”
