Multiple shootings in Minneapolis overnight; 1 fatal shooting at the scene of a house fire

MINNEAPOLIS — The police are investigating several night shootings, one of which turned out to be fatal.

Several squads and officers arrived in the area near 27th Street and 15th Avenue in South Minneapolis on Friday evening. The WCCO was told that police responded to reports of a possible shooting shortly before midnight.

Police say that preliminary investigation indicates that there was an altercation between two people who knew each other. In the end, the case escalated into a shootout. The identity of the victim has not been established, no one has been detained.

This is the 72nd death being investigated as a homicide in Minneapolis in 2022.

The house where the fatal shooting took place was also the site of a fire during the night. Although authorities say they did not find a connection between the two, fire brigades still responded to the fire. They found flames on the porch and on the first floor. They managed to put out the fire on the first floor, but by then it had spread to the second floor, attic and roof. The house has now been declared uninhabitable.

About two hours later, gunshots rang out on Hennepin Avenue near 4th Street. Police responded to a call about gunshots around 1:25 a.m. In this incident, an 18-year-old woman received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. She was taken to the Hennepin Healthcare hospital.

Police say a 17-year-old boy also came to Hennepin Healthcare with a non-life-threatening wound related to the incident. Once again, it turns out that the quarrel at the scene turned into a shooting. No one has been arrested in this case either.

Also Friday night, another shooting shortly before 11pm. It was downtown, close to South 8th Street and Portland Avenue.

Police say one man is seriously injured. Rescuers took him to the hospital. So far, there are no arrests.
