Minor kick delays return of 2021 Caulfield Cup winner

Players will have to wait a little longer to see the return of 2021 Caulfield Cup winner Incentivise.

Incentivize has not raced since the gelding was recuperating from long-standing leg injuries when he was second to champion mare Verry Ellegant in that year’s Melbourne Cup.

Stayer began to prepare for a return to racing, but coach Peter Moody told Racing And Sports that Shamus Award’s son knocked his foot in the stable, setting him back 10 days.

“He will be out at the beginning of the fall, so he is probably at the very end of the fall now, but his condition is good, but we just made a mistake due to caution,” Moody said.

“We’re back by about 10 days, and for a horse like him, that’s probably going to set him back two or three weeks.”

The minor setback means Incentivize will miss out on Melbourne’s fall events but could return during the Sydney or Brisbane carnivals later this year.

Incentivize has won nine out of 13 starts, including three Group 1 wins and over $5.7 million in stakes.
