Mexico advance to World Baseball Classic semi-finals as rally stuns Puerto Rico

Mexico put on a dramatic comeback to stun Puerto Rico 5-4 on Friday to set up a semi-final showdown with Japan at the World Baseball Classic.

An in-form Puerto Rico took a 4-0 lead in the first inning after harassing Mexico’s starting pitcher Julio Urias with relentless punches at LoanDepot Park in Miami.

A sacrificial flight by Emmanuel Rivera scored against Enrique Hernandez to give Puerto Rico a 1-0 lead before Javi Baez and Eddie Rosario launched two strikeouts in a row to extend the lead to 4-0.
