USA/AMERICA:

Wall Street closed higher this Wednesday. All 11 sectors of the S&P 500 experienced growth, especially technology (1.9%) and real estate (1.7%). International capital poured back into the US as the Dow Jones average gained over 300 points. The technology sector as a whole had a positive trading day, which resulted in the closing of the Nasdaq in positive territory. Concerns about US banks eased temporarily after Powell and Yellen took action last week to deal with the bank failures that occurred earlier this month.

US Market Closing:

  • The Dow rose 323.35 points, or 1%, to 32,717.6.
  • The S&P 500 rose 56.54 points, or 1.42%, to 4027.81.
  • The Nasdaq rose 210.16 points, or 1.79%, to 11,926.24.
  • Russell 2000 advanced 18.97 points or 1.08% to 1771.6.

Closing the Canadian market:

  • The TSX Composite advanced 180.12 points, or 0.92%, to 19,837.65.
  • The TSX 60 advanced 11.8 points or 1% to 1192.08.

Brazil Market Closing:

  • Bovespa climbed 607.43 points, or 0.6%, to 101,792.52.

ENERGY:

Oil markets have had a mixed day today:

  • Crude oil rose $0.397/bbl, or 0.54%, to $73.597.
  • Brent rose $0.198/bbl, or 0.25%, to $78.848.
  • Natural gas fell $0.0042/mbtu, or -0.20%, to 2.1428.
  • Gasoline fell $0.0346/gallon, or -1.28%, to $2.6775.
  • Heating oil fell $0.0627/gal or -2.26% to 2.7069.
