Lebanese chief prosecutor indicts judge in Beirut bombing case and releases detainees

Lebanon’s chief prosecutor on Wednesday indicted the judge investigating the explosion in the port of Beirut, a court source said, and ordered the release of all those detained in connection with the devastating explosion. Ghassan Oveidat’s decision signals increased resistance from the Lebanese ruling class to the efforts of Judge Tarek Bitar to reopen the investigation into the 2020 bombing that killed more than 220 people.
