Jon Stewart eviscerated Republican senator against sensible gun control

When Oklahoma state senator. Nathan Dam (right) tried to tell Jon Stewart that free gun laws make citizens safer, but the broadcaster didn’t hear it.

“I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment,” the MP said at Episode Thursday from “Trouble with John Stewart“I believe that the right to keep and bear arms should not be violated,” he added, stressing that this is the only amendment that “uses very specific affirmative language.”

“Oh, it’s also the only right that uses the phrase ‘well regulated,'” Stewart replied, adding that he’s not opposed to the Second Amendment.

“I don’t want to ban guns. But you’re saying more guns is safer. So when? We have 400 million guns in this country. We’ve had growth and gun deaths have gone up,” Stewart added. So, when exactly does this curve hit, what will bring it down? Can a billion guns handle it?”

ladies filed multiple bills last year focused on limiting gun control measures. One bill would strengthen Oklahoma’s anti-red flag law, which prohibits cities or counties in the state from enacting ordinances that give law enforcement the ability to temporarily seize a firearm from someone deemed dangerous. He also filed a bill allowing anyone with a license to carry a firearm in the State Capitol.

His latest bill, filed in January, states that “firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition that are commercially or privately manufactured in Oklahoma and remain solely within the boundaries of Oklahoma are not subject to federal law … including registration.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that there were more than 45,000 firearm-related deaths in 2020, up 34% from 2019 and 75% from the previous decade. BBC.

When Dam argued that “the problem is with the man” and not easy access to firearms, he famously shot himself in the foot.

“We need to look at the problems these people are having” rather than enforce sensible gun laws, Dam said – only for Stewart to remind him that his policies “deprived the state of the ability to do that.”

“If you don’t have background checks, you don’t have registration and permits, how do you know who has problems with the people you give guns to?” Stuart asked, adding that Dam “brings order out of chaos.”

“That’s your subjective opinion,” said Dam, dodging Stewart’s question.

“This is not my subjective opinion,” said the formerdaily showThe owner stepped back. “We have 50,000 gun-related deaths. This is not a subjective opinion. These are dead people.”

“When the police come to a house filled with guns, why don’t they breathe a sigh of relief knowing that this Second Amendment, which should not be violated, is so fruitfully applied in this house?” Stuart asked later in a particularly poignant moment.

When Stewart suggested that simply registering guns would make both citizens and police officers safer, Dam said the registration was a violation of his rights, despite acknowledging that other rights, such as the right to vote in elections, require registration to do so.

The frustrated host continued to question Dam. his reports of plans to ban drag shows from reading to children. Stewart asked why he felt so strongly about physically harmless events and cared so little about gun violence.

“Because the government has an obligation to protect…children,” Dam said.

“You’re telling me you don’t mind violating free speech to protect kids from this amorphous thing you’re thinking about,” Stewart said. “But when it comes to children who have died, you don’t give a damn to stop it, because it shouldn’t be violated.”

“This is hypocrisy to the highest degree,” Stewart said.
