Japanese manager Hajime Moriyasu defends decisions during loss to Costa Rica

Japanese manager Hajime Moriyasu defended his decision to shake up his starting XI for Sunday’s World Cup match against Costa Rica, saying he has no regrets despite the disappointment of a 1-0 defeat.

“The result was disgraceful, but that doesn’t mean that what we did was wrong,” Moriyasu said after Japan’s lifeless performance at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.

The mood in the Japanese camp after the game contrasted sharply with the jubilation that followed a thrilling 2-1 victory over four-time German champions.
