Japanese lawmakers create group to promote cricket

Japanese lawmakers on Wednesday celebrated the launch of a nonpartisan cricket promotion group, which has a minor presence in the country.

The group is led by Toshimitsu Motegi, general secretary of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. His constituency in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture is home to the Japan Cricket Association.

“They say there are 300 million people playing cricket (worldwide), but in Japan the figure is still around 4,000,” Motegi said at the group’s first meeting in Tokyo.

In a time of both misinformation and too much information, quality journalism is more important than ever.
