Japan national football team manager Hajime Moriyasu said on Friday that he had been approached to cancel the ceremonial first pitch in Japan’s first game of the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

The 54-year-old led Japan to the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar after Samurai Blue defeated Germany and Spain in the group stage.

The Japanese baseball team, known as Samurai Japan, will play China in the first Group B game on March 9 at the Tokyo Dome.
