Hajime Moriyasu announces Japan squad for World Cup
On Tuesday, head coach Hajime Moriyasu announced his 26-man roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, believing a mostly established core of players but not mentioning a few top Japanese standouts in European competitions, as well as longtime veteran Samurai Blue.
The announcement of Japan’s four-year roster has sometimes led to surprise selections and shocking omissions, and on Tuesday midfielder Genki Haraguchi and striker Yuya Osako, both of whom played at the previous World Cup in Russia, were left off the list.
