Germany suffers another early exit from the World Cup after ‘absolute disaster’ in Qatar

Germany striker Thomas Müller said his country’s second consecutive first-round elimination at the World Cup was “an absolute disaster”, which teammate Kai Havertz likened to “watching a horror movie”.

Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 on Thursday, but Japan’s 2-1 victory over Spain meant that Germany finished third in Group E behind the Spaniards, with four points each and positions determined by goal difference.

“This is incredibly bittersweet for us because our result would have been enough,” Muller said.
