Today in the Calculated Risk Real Estate newsletter: First look at housing forecast for 2023

Brief excerpt:

Toward the end of each year, I collect housing forecasts for the following year.

By comparison, new home sales in 2022 are likely to be around 650,000, compared to 771,000 in 2021.

The total number of new buildings will be about 1.58 million in 2022, slightly down from 1.60 million in 2021.

Existing home sales will be around 5.1 million in 2022, up from 6.1 million in 2021.

As of August, House prices Case-Schiller increased by 13.0% over last year, but the change over last year is slowing down rapidly.

Appropriate credit limitAt present, Fannie Mae’s forecast differs from other forecasts in a sharper decline in total home launches and sales.

These predictions will be updated over the next few months, and I’ll also add a few more as they become available (and my own predictions).
