Donald Trump says he will be arrested in the coming days
Donald Trump announced that he expects to be arrested in the coming days and called on the nation to protest in his support.
On Saturday, the former U.S. president posted on social media that he was awaiting arrest on Tuesday in connection with an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney.
“Unlawful leaks from the corrupt and highly politicized Manhattan District Attorney’s Office … indicate that since the crime cannot be proven … the arguably leading Republican candidate and former President of the United States of America will be arrested. Tuesday next week,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Protest, take back our nation,” he said.
His suspicions stem from evidence presented to a grand jury earlier this year by the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
A grand jury was investigating the payment of nearly A$200,000 ($130,000) by Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer and aide to porn star Stormy Daniels.
The payment was allegedly made during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Ms. Daniels claimed she had an affair with Trump a decade ago, which the former president denied.
Trump, who served from 2017 to 2021, remains committed to returning to the presidency in 2024.
