Brazil: Jair Bolsonaro reportedly concedes electoral defeat amid major unrest

Brazil’s incumbent president, Jair Bolsonaro, appeared to have come to terms with his electoral defeat, reportedly telling members of the Supreme Court that “it’s all over.”

It comes after the outgoing president went silent for almost two days after Sunday’s vote. failure to explicitly admit defeat at Tuesday’s press conference.

After a private meeting with Bolsonaro, Supreme Court Justice Luis Edson Fachin said the conservative leader admitted “it’s over.” So let’s look ahead.” The judge made the comment in a video broadcast to the local media.

Meanwhile, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters gathered at the gates of army barracks across Brazil on Wednesday, demanding federal intervention to prevent leftist Luis Inacio Lula da Silva from taking power.

Since then, tensions have risen in Bolsonaro’s strongholds. His supporters called on the military to intervene, and many of them blocked highways after months of allegations of fraud in Brazil’s electoral system.

In São Paulo, thousands of boléronists demonstrated in front of military headquarters, while a similar demonstration in Brazil also drew thousands of protesters, some of whom were reportedly calling for “civil resistance”.
