Body discovered after fire on Sydney’s North Shore
Police have confirmed the discovery of a body inside a home destroyed by a fire on Saturday in Sydney’s North Shore.
12 Fire and Rescue NSW trucks carrying 40 firefighters arrived at the property in North Willoughby at 9:30am yesterday after thick smoke and the sound of a person’s screams alerted neighbours to the blaze.
Mother-of-two Joyce Lewis had lived on the street for close to 40 years and was the only one home when the blaze started.
“I don’t know if I could’ve done a little bit more; I wish I could’ve,” one local said.
“It’s easier to talk afterwards, but I just wish I could’ve done a bit more.”
