AUKUS ‘very important’ for Indo-Pacific stability

Former foreign secretary Alexander Downer says AUKUS is “very important” in the context of China’s rise and the need for a stable Indo-Pacific.

“Like I’ve been saying for many, many years, you can only do this if you have two things,” he told Sky News anchor Chris Kenny.

“First, there is an appropriate balance of power in the Indo-Pacific if China cannot dominate the entire region.

“And secondly, we have a strategy of coexistence with China.”
