Ashley Buhai is glad she was able to handle the pressure of winning the SA Open

Although she insisted before the tournament that she was not under any pressure, Ashley Buhai admitted at the weekend that she was both relieved and delighted to win the South African Open title again.

After the start of the final round of the co-sanctioned Sunny Women’s Tour and the Women’s European Tour at Steenberg Golf Club in Cape Town with a four-stroke lead, Buhai managed to maintain his lead on the last 18 holes, hitting four under-par 68s to secure a landslide victory and complete her fourth national tournament. title.

“Of course I’m in seventh heaven,” said Buhai, who also won the British Open trophy last August.

“I am delighted that the work has been completed. My goal was to come here and win this week.

“I tried to play it down because I know it’s a lot of pressure and it’s going to be hard to do. But now that I’ve exceeded all expectations, I’m really happy.”

Buhai hasn’t won the SA Open since 2018, but she has proven once again that she deserves to be among the top players on the tour.

“Family Routine”

She felt that she was achieving consistent success at the highest level, sticking to her processes in difficult times, and was glad that she was able to maintain her composure in a different international field.

“I have my own routine on the green, and I have found that by following it every time, instead of worrying about whether the shot will land, I am very relaxed and the results will come from familiarity with this routine,” Buhay said.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Ana Pelaez Trivino came in second for the second straight week after finishing second at the Joburg Open the previous weekend.

“We make sure every area is covered and then we just go out there and have fun. Fortunately, we are good at golf and can enjoy it even more,” said Trivino.

“I’m going to take everything next week and hopefully win. I like to finish second, but I’d rather have the trophy with me.”
