Amber Ruffin and sister Lacey Lamar recall racist car dealership incident

late night writer Amber Ruffin and her sister Lacey Lamar returned to NBC’s The Seth Meyers Show this week to talk about racism.

Lamar recalled a time when a car dealership refused her a cash rebate, but minutes later a white family friend showed up and was offered a $4,000 rebate on the exact same car.

Faced with this, the dealership offered Lamar a little discount – but only 1000 dollars.

Needless to say, she didn’t buy a car.

“I still live there, so these things happen to me all the time,” Lamar told Meyers.

“Part of the reason we wrote the first book is because of the sheer volume of these things,” Ruffin said. “It’s the trash life of one tiny lady, and it’s so funny because she’s not special in any way… she’s not evil or mean or bad in any way, she’s just a nice little happy guy and it all happens to her.”
